Yadu Health's New Building Updates

January '23

Yadu Health are excited to announce that Development Planning Consent for the new building has been approved. Gaining approval is an important step in process of constructing a new facility and means that Yadu Health and construction partners MDLR and Das Studios can now progress to the next stage of the construction process.

Yadu Health can also announce that the funding agreement with the South Australian Department of Health valued at $2.5 M has now been finalised and executed. Yadu Health are currently in the process of negotiating a funding agreement with the Australian Government Dept. Health and Ageing.

The new building has been designed for the delivery of a range of primary health care services as well as specialist and allied health services.

The building had to be contained on the footprint of the existing building. This restricted how the building could be aligned and laid out. It was a requirement of the South Australian Department of Health funding contribution that the new building would increase the number of Allied Health services and provide for a dental and dental hygiene suite. Given that the building is a health facility it has to comply with a range of statutory and regulatory planning requirements as well as the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines. These guidelines recommend consultation room size, air flow, fit out and lighting requirements. Yadu clinical staff, allied health practitioners and specialist providers have been consulted on the number of required consultation rooms and this information was used by the architects in planning the layout and functionality of the building.

In addition to the clinical services that Yadu provide there is also a range of social and emotional wellbeing programs. The office space and interview/consultation room requirements for the social and emotional wellbeing programs is different to the clinical consultation rooms. There is also the requirement for office space for the corporate team who ensure that the bills are paid, the lights stay on and people are paid.

While the operational parts of the building have been laid out in compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements the building itself is a ‘blank canvas’ externally and internally. This ‘blank canvas’ will be for the Aboriginal Community of the West Coast to show case Aboriginal Culture throughout the entirety of the building. This can take many forms, from murals and paintings to photos that celebrate the history of people, places and events. Yadu Health are inviting community members to participate in a cultural advisory group who will ensure that the new building will be a showcase of the creativity and resilience of West Coast First Nations People.

Yadu Health is holding an information day on Saturday 4th February at the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel from 10.00 am to 2:00 pm, morning tea and lunch platter will be provided. Please register your attendance preferably before Tuesday, 31st January 2023, for catering purposes.
